Located just 1.25 miles from San Francisco, Alcatraz is a rocky outpost accessible only by ferry, with a fascinating history that dates back to its original name, Isla de Los Alcatraces (Island of the Pelicans). Perhaps most famously, it served as a prison until 1963. This photograph boasts an impressive 250+ megapixels, allowing for incredible detail despite being taken from 8 miles away from the island.
